I Wonder what the future holds for stubbs park

Of late i have noticed a number of houses springing up around the park and it makes me wonder what the future for this park, i wonder if the city will give in to the big spenders and give up the park for development or they if  they will do the right thing and preserve this place for future generations.

I also noticed some of the green areas where starting to turn brown, could this be due to neglect?

Aside

I used not to be a guy you can find strolling in a park for whatever reason. I was one of those people that thought going to the park was “lame” but everything changed when i met this girl.

My love story started in 2008. I was walking to the library one time and i saw this girl, she was wearing a green outfit and the wind was blowing her hair from side to side, My heart skipped a beat for a second, she was the most beautiful girl i’ve ever seen. I’m not exaggerating, if you saw this girl you would agree with me, she’s like anything out of this world, a true definition of beauty and on top of that, a life changer.

I got to admit the time i saw this princess i was already in love with someone else, but think about a girl that makes you take a bold move and risk your relationship because you cant help it, that’s how beautiful this girl was.

So i stopped for a minute pondering if i should make the move or not and every time i tried to walk away i kept hearing these voices calling me, a magnetic force was pulling me back, i tried to resist and i was over powered. And that is how i fell in love with stubbs park.

With tall trees and green grass, this is a perfect place to go if you need a piece of mind, relax and admire the best nature has to offer

stubbs park

Had a long day? need a break from the rest the world? In look of a place where you can meditate, discover your inner self and enjoy nature at its finest? Welcome to Stubbs park

Living in a crowded area and next to a bustling town can take a toll on you, there are times when you feel like you need some me time, but in a crowded neighborhood, me time is not easy to come by, even if you locked yourself inside your apartment, the guy next door will show his presence by testing the new stereo he just bought from walmart, and you know how loud those things can get. so whats the remedy? Stubbs park.

With its tall trees, green grass and dead silence, it’s the only place where you feel at home away from home and the only place where you can interact with nature

One kid’s toy…..

They say a picture tells 1000 words but this one might be telling more. A viewer may have different opinions about this picture depending on what part of the world they come from. According to the photographer he was trying to portray poverty in Laos, the fact that they cant even afford the toys for their toddlers and they rely on mother nature to provide their kids what to play with.

Like i said how you look at this picture depends on what part of the world you come from. Here in the United States majority of the people would look at this picture with disgust, where as in Laos they would pull out a string when they came across a grasshopper for their kids to play with, here a parent would pull out a fly swatter.

But i think this picture illustrates just how much nature and the things around us can be helpful and how “fortunate” kids from the United States are, i put fortunate in quotes because having your own ipad at age one may not be interpreted as fortunate by the people of Laos, if you look at how beautiful and peaceful that baby is, it shows you that grasshoppers have probably been doing a great job in entertaining her

what lies behind the eyes

hike

We had a hike on Thursday and it was a good experience being the first time for me walking on the banks of the Great Miami River. Its water looks so clean and you feel the air is a lot fresher there.

We didn’t see as many birds as we had expected but we managed to see some butterflies and maybe one or two birds including a duck that was walking from the other side of the river.

I hope to take more walks to the river in the near future and learn more about the whole environment. It made wonder how the birds and all the organisms that take sanctuary in and along the river were affected during the construction of the bridges and how our pollution affects them

energy

Electricity is considered as the wheels that drive the western world’s economy and its not only factories that are dependent on it but its one of the basic necessities for every household. Power goes off for an hour, even a minute and life comes to a standstill, everything depends on electricity whether is generated from the power plants or from a standby generator that is ready to kick in when there’s a power outage.

I find this as an important subject to research on as our lives are dependent on electricity. The effects of electricity, its generation, distribution and usage both negative and positive are self explanatory but i will dig in and do some research to further explain how we might be heading for the darker days if we don’t come up with ways to generate cleaner energy.

The questions i ask myself are, at the speed the human population is multiplying will we have enough resources to power the next generations? do the advantages of electricity surpass the disadvantages of producing it? and what can we redefine the ways we produce energy and invest in cleaner energy production?

  The carbon footprint test

The carbon footprint quiz is a program that measures or determines how much impact on the environment an individual contributes. It measures the carbon emissions and the resources one needs to sustain them.

According to this program, my carbon footprint was 23.9 global acres of the Earth’s productive area. It would 5.4 Planet Earths to provide enough resources if everyone lived like me .

Based on the suggestions i was given, i think they are a little exergulated because i believe many people live the same life style as i do and it doesn’t seem like the planet is running out of resources to support our life style anytime soon. I’m not totally against devising means of conserving the earth’s resources for future generations, but i think sometimes these things are over estimated. I think there are still enough resources under the earth’s crust to cater for our needs for years and years to come.

Reaction to “Wolves, Ravens, and a New Purpose to Science”

The main idea of “Wolves, Ravens, and a New Purpose to Science.” is to create awareness on how we should protect nature and the environment which are likely to be destroyed if we don’t take drastic measures to protect it. His idea is that we are misusing the science that should have been used to protect the environment but instead we use to to serve our own interests and we pretend like we know whats going yet we are keeping a blind eye and we use the other open one eye to look at nature and be mesmerized by its beauty.

What makes Vucetich’s idea different from most people’s ideas about science is the fact that he wants science to used for more that just predicting what is gonna happen in the future but to conserve, protect and replicate what we have already destroyed.

I think Vucetich’s idea about nature and environment is substantial, in this world all nature depends on each other, we cant live if we don’t have food to eat and we cant grow the food we eat if the conditions that support food growth are destroyed, we need the trees to produce rain, we need the animals for their own purpose, everything has an important role it plays, so its about time we stopped admiring how tall trees are, how white a polar bear fur is or how playful dolphins are and we helped in creating a favorable environment for them to flourish

My favorite place is my porch, its a small and quite place yet feels big when i sit there and watch the world and time go by. Its the only place where is have the power to put the world on “mute”, let me put it this way,  with all the children playing in the compound singing and screaming to each other, the honk of the geese swimming in a nearby pond and the sound of cars that are speeding off on the road that is a few blocks from my apartment, i can still meditate and feel like the only sound that i can hear in the world is the beating of my heart.

Its only on my porch that i can feel a slow wave of air moving towards me bringing with it a sweet smelling  scent from the cedar tree that stands tall among the houses and so old that it is the envied by the ninety year old lady that lives right next to me.

Its a place of peace, the only place i can find my inner self and its my porch. i love it
